A few teething issues!
The Cooper has been running well for its first 200+ miles since the restoration until a blast out one evening this week when I notice a bit of oil splash back in the engine, thought nothing of it and carried on till about 3miles from home I lost all oil pressure. When investigated on the side of A38, it appeared that the oil pressure release valve had come loose! A quick nip up and on I went, limping home.
On the way back the car started an intermittent ‘Hickup’ plus the Rev counter had started frantically waving at me.
So….
The oil pressure valve now fully tightened, oil checked and topped up along with a check on a water level (also topped up).
On the re run yesterday the Rev counter started to read well upon start up but soon a pulling away it started waving again! And the hickup is also still there!. On route back home after a quick 10mile run the car stopped, lights on but no go, luckily only around the corner and a quick push we were home.
Upon investigation and a good couple of smacks on the fuel pump, it seemed to work, would this be the hickup I have started to experience (yet to take it out for a good blast apart from around the block but seemed ok) also what would be the issue on the Rev counter?
Any thoughts and advice welcomed.
TIA

Re: A few teething issues!
I recently had a misfire, after about 1800 miles on a new engine. Tried plugs, leads, checked points to no avail. found that the rivet terminal on my SA12 coil was loose. Replaced the coil and all was well again. Also, make sure you have a gap at the points. Mine the heel was worn after 250 miles to a point where the points were no longer opening.

Re: A few teething issues!
Many thanks all,
Will start having a good look over the coming evenings at the coil, connectors and possibly the distributor contact points.
I have also notice that the spark plug caps are ok’ish and have ordered some alternatives from greensparkplug co just in case.
The re counter is an induction type and I will also have a good clean down with some contact cleaner.
Will keep you posted

As it’s the induction type, check that the loop at the back is sitting as it should and make sure there’s no other wires close to interfere

Re: A few teething issues!
If it was mine.
First, I'd disconnect the rev counter. Then try to get to the bottom of the misfire. I reckon Surfs suggestion of checking the coil first is a good one. If that is OK, then all the usual, plugs, points, condenser, fuel pump etc.
Once the misfire is sorted, re connect the rev counter & check that. As has already been said, if it's an induction loop one: It doesn't like it's wires near anything "noisy" plug leads etc. If you have electronic ignition, it will blow up sooner rather than later. personally, I think they are hateful things only suitable for sitting on a shelf.
Let us know how you go. Good luck.
