I found a use for an old polycarbonate visor from a face shield for a spray shield. It is a perfect size for the mk1and would probably work on a mk2 as well.
I use the external bonnet catch so cut a section out for that, but apart from that, its a perfect fit even the visor holes line up with the two middle screws on the mustache. Just slide it up under the mustache and refit the grille. You don't see it from the outside and only just notice it in the engine bay.
You can save your marigolds for the dishes.

I have done a similar thing using some spare plastic sheet, miles better than the Mk3 onwards style, although some say can compromise cooling during hot temperatures.
