I don't think the body was built in 59. Many wrong things to that period. According to most comments, i think this body was problaly assembled is 62 or 63. I've another MK1, April 61, and the heater unit is quite diferent, just the "normal" inside square blower box, but without fresh air intake... Does the hole through your bulkhead look properly cut, with a formed edge ? And four fixing screw holes for a retaining ring ?
My '61 has the 4" bulkhead hole but with a blanking plate as they were still fitting fug-stirrers at that time.

Those heaters were available in late 59 to some export markets, mostly Scandinavian. The earlier fresh air heater was a cylinder where the snail is.

Early fresh air snail motor. First UK Mini it was fitted to was April 1960.

I bow to Bill's superior knowledge - I've never seen that cylinder blower for the fresh air heater before - used I assume before the snail shape one.

Just found a Smiths snail type fan in my box of bits I bought with a Mk1 from Norway.
Looks like it was a "cold climate" option.

I said '63 because that was the year of my car that had this heater.

Nice to see some pictures of one installed but does this fan take the place of one in the heater box inside or do they work together?

Interestingly, my 997 Cooper (June 63) Has the brackets for the later heater on the bulkhead

And the factory stamped holes for the 4kW heater it it was equipped with

My late 61 850 doesn't have the firewall brackets for the Std heater, but does have the same 4kW heater and fan setup as my 63

I have the snail blower and early fresh air heater box with dash mounted heat and air control cables on a Canadian export 61 morris van and 62 morris mini traveller. Seen on most export models. Pretty rare I think. The cable operated tubular 'valve' behind the grill, the 'push for air' cable, and the early circular water heater valve seem to be the hardest parts to locate.
