Cooper S crankshaft pulley and damper

Whilst looking through my 7/64 copy of the AKD3509 parts manual, I was surprised and confused to see that the crankshaft damper picture for all Cooper and Cooper S models shows a one piece damper/pulley and listed as part number 12G282. The only photo of the separate damper ring and pulley, listed as part numbers 12A366 and 12A367 is shown as being for some 997cc Coopers. Is this just a mistake in the manual?

I’ve seen a few 997 engines with the two piece damper and sold one a couple years or so ago with one on it.

My 1970 MK II "S" I have owned since 1971 , and the engine still has the two-piece damper. Ive changed the crank since but kept the pulley on!

I have a couple 997 engines and they both have two-piece crankshaft pulleys on them.

Even the ADO16 early MG1100 had the two piece damper fitted , i have still got one and seen another.

I was the first to strip my 1071 I suspect, as it even had the original BMC stampings on the bearings. It had the two piece damper fitted.

Whilst I can be less sure with the 970 as it was a gold seal replacement, that too came with a two piece.

I recently sold a complete numbers matching 63 997 Cooper and it had the two part balancer and the engine from my 64 1071 S also had a two part balancer. While I have retained most balancers removed from engines, stacks here and there. I replace the balancer and the ring gear, surface the flywheel, back pate and adjust the clutch preload before having the complete assembly balanced. And I use the new MSC two part balance on all my engine builds. Steve (CTR)

Something else I've noticed is that the new Cooper S crank pulleys, C-AEG454 available from Minispares do not have the machined area to locate the crank bolt lock tab, 12A398. I hope the photos of old original and new show what I mean?
This confused me a bit when fitting a new one recently. I used the lock tab as a plain washer and the Special Tuning lock tab C-AHT146 to prevent the crank bolt from loosening. Is this a suitable way of fitting a new crank pulley?
