Can we have a sneaky peaky at the entry list? Have heard there’s quite abit of American muscle on it.

Re: Oulton Park Gold Cup 2021
Hope there’s some last minute entries to fill the grid, not many Imps this year or Minis for that matter. They need to change the name to the Historic Ford Championship!
Is it two races on Monday again?

Re: Oulton Park Gold Cup 2021
Yep, quali at 830 and the races at about 2pm and 4pm. All Monday.
Donnington was the same, about 15 cars. They put us in a joint grid with slick shod 90s touring cars so just spent the second race keeping out of their way. Puncture in the first one.

Re: Oulton Park Gold Cup 2021
It’s a shame they won’t let other age minis in similar to CSCC, the grids in some HSCC championships are suffering a lot this year especially in Saloon series. Just 10 in Dunlop Saloons...HSCC runs a risk of being too single seater focussed I fear.

Re: Oulton Park Gold Cup 2021
I’m glad it’s gonna be dry this weekend but Minis really don’t stand a chance against the Fords, even Richard Casey with his new personal best times posted during testing (probably the quickest that a 1293 five port Mini has been around Oulton!). Still looking forward to it though.
I do wish though that the meeting wasn’t so single seater orientated, especially Monday. The entry for historic road sports is mega as usual but as usual I’ll miss them cos they’re on Sunday! In fact I’ve never seen them at Oulton for that exact reason.
It’s also fair to say the entry numbers for touring cars has been hovering around the 20 mark for a number of years. I think there’s a few reasons this year, a packed late Summer calendar being just one , the fact that App K drivers just don’t bother with Oulton anymore plus the attraction of expanding grids, more liberal regs and better value offered by the CTCRC. I also don’t see enough new drivers getting into historic saloons. Absolutely loads of younger drivers with App K cars, but they want longer races and shared drives which isn’t HSCC.

Re: Oulton Park Gold Cup 2021
I’ve been racing with HSCC for 15 years I think and to be honest it’s always felt like the Club leadership looked down on the saloon car racers.

Re: Oulton Park Gold Cup 2021
Don’t know. They were super helpful when I did the technical data paperwork for the Hornet, during scrutineering and really wanted us to come back after running the car in 2019 so I’ve only got that experience to go off. Timo Harber has always found them pretty helpful I’m sure aswell but despite opening pre 66 up to non homologated A series cars running a 1275 it’s not increased the grids the way it was hoped.

Re: Oulton Park Gold Cup 2021
The “guys on the ground” and the scrutineers, as well as the HRSR team are really helpful. I’ve just always felt that the higher ups are far more interested in single seaters and sports cars.

Re: Oulton Park Gold Cup 2021
Changed the output shaft bush and seal so fingers crossed it’ll be a little less leaky and now ready to go.
If you’re there pop in and say hi.

Re: Oulton Park Gold Cup 2021
Enjoyed it yesterday, nice to see Tim, Murph, Dave, Nick, etc . Richard Casey was absolutely on it and broke what I think is the pre 66 Mini class record putting him on the 2nd row in the first race, only to be thwarted by a broken output shaft circlip! Great day out though, spectator numbers well up despite some modest grids. Not many Minis about but here’s a few ..

Re: Oulton Park Gold Cup 2021
Good to see people again, seems like things are getting more normal. Lost the clutch in race 2 looks like the slave cylinder is letting air in

Re: Oulton Park Gold Cup 2021
Only the second Gold Cup I’ve missed in 20 years. Partly family reasons but as I mentioned to Pete there’s way too many single seater races for me now.
The event has become very much another HSCC meeting and had lost the sense of occasion it still had event ten years ago.
I notice they’ve got rid of the rally displays aswell which seems rather odd.

Re: Oulton Park Gold Cup 2021
Definitely seems to lack ideas nowadays in terms of anniversary celebrations, special guests etc. It’s THE premiere historic race meeting of the north and is being allowed to wither away, yes the loss of the rally stage is pretty short sighted too!Brynmor wrote: ↑Tue Aug 31, 2021 10:55 pm Only the second Gold Cup I’ve missed in 20 years. Having said that it looked very busy to me so the audience is still definitely there. The venue is also looking better every year so the problem has to be the HSCC?

Re: Oulton Park Gold Cup 2021
Silverstone have just announced the Classic will take place on the August bank holiday so the Gold Cup will have to move! Just more southern bias, nothing new.
