Carb damper
My 62 850 can be a little temperamental under acceleration and die out, when i recommissioned it the carb had a plastic damper as original carb had been lost, I purchased a brass damper from mini spares and have now discovered upon refitting plastic damper the problem has gone away, I can only presume the damper is incorrect and either lets the piston rise to quickly or holds it down,
Has anyone else had this issue and as the minispares damper was listed for mini is the best option to source an original one.

Re: Carb damper
Do they both have vent holes in the top?
You can swap the plunger part from one to the other, they should also have a similar amount of free play between the plunger and the rod

Re: Carb damper
What number is the plastic damper? It should have a number like AUC8013, AUC8114 or similar. If the one you have works well then I'd just use that.
I assume you have a HS2 carb? They used plastic topped dampers, it was the earlier H series carbs that had brass topped ones. It is possible to modify your brass one to suit if we know what spec works for you.

Re: Carb damper
You can easily swap the dampers from shaft to shaft. Just remove the small circlip on the end & transfer the gubbins from the plastic one to the brass one or Vice Versa.

Re: Carb damper
Thanks,
I will test drive the car the weekend and if all is ok I will swap the ends over, just the weather was to bad to mess last Saturday.

Re: Carb damper
Also check the length of the saft of the damper itself, they vary hence it might prevent the piston from doing what it ought to
