Although it won’t help your immediate problem, you need one of these for the choke:

Have you tried a tiny ammount of fuel directly into carb to see if the engine will fire
if there is no sign of life it may be worth going back to a timing issue

Going back to the plug leads you have firing order 1342 number one cylinder is at the fan end of the engine
leads going counter clockwise
Number one lead appox at the one o clock postion on the distributor cap

Tow start can often start a stubborn engine assuming fuel and timing correct
The best repairs go un-noticed

Hi
I am not an expert by any means but have you considered the distributor.
I have had trouble recently in starting my own car and the diaganosis by my garage was with the distributor. It was sent off for refurbishment and now there are no starting problems at all.
Just a thought!

The distributor is new. Within the year. I have a friend who will come over and try to start it, I usually ask him stuff over the phone and have kept it going over the last few years, this time I need some on the car help.

firstly, put your engine at TDC. Then check that the rotor arm is pointing at roughly 13:00 and that the lead to No 1 cylinder is at the same position on the dizzy cap.
Most of the time you can have the dizzy 180" out.

It should not be 180 out because it's been running up until the day I killed it. But I think that is the next step anyway.

I got it...or my friend did. He didn't like the way my distributor was wired or because I had a bent/used fuel jet and the piston wouldn't drop. A few carb issues in all. Thanks guys for the suggestions,
