Dot5 synthetic silicon brake fluid on MK1 single line

my experiences on this subject is from supplier Automec ( they are local to buy from ) & have only ever filled their silicone fluid into a complete new "S" single line brake systems without servo .. and in each car the brake pedal i would describe as Long .. My description of Long Pedal does not mean in any way Spongy and my Long Pedal will not pump up when this is tried .. Further My Brakes are doing what are asked of them, Road Brake Efficiency is just normal as they should be..they will pass any MOT brake test ..other Drivers of my cars do not mention anything about my Long Pedal so is it just me?.. each to their own.

1071 S post matches my experience. I leave the bottle beside the car overnight and then pour carefully. It is also important to gently bench bleed the master cylinder and avoid thrashing the pedal to bleed the rest of the braking system. I think this is a good idea for other types of brake fluid too but it does take some of the fun out of it.

Unfortunately, whatever your opinion, if this is the opinion of manufacturer of your brakes and you have a crash that is investigated and potentially caused by brake failure, you could well be seen as liable……

Hang on Exminman.. so we all have potential of a very serious crash that could need indepth investigation and the brake fluid is somehow found to be to blame because its not as the Manufacturer specified .. i will counter that NO other item of my fully replaced component Brake Systems is how Manufacturer "BMC " intended ,, So any potential brake specific crash investigation will prove that my/our crashed Vehicle is very far from what was or should be OE as BMC specified.. but at least i have the comfort of good & efficient Brakes that are much better than when the Car was produced.

Honestly dont have an opinion either way on Silicon brake fluid.

Its just that "Manufacturers Instructions" usually trump all - fitting something that a manufacturer specifically says dont use, could mean that if something awful happened, god forbid, a sharp Loss Adjuster could allow the Insurance company to walk away.......they would only have to dip the master cylinder..

Granted, its very unlikely to happen and depends on your insurance policy.......but if the stakes are high enough, who knows...

I asked my sister, a now long and happily retired Barrister, whether anything silicon related had found its way into court proceedings or other litigation especially in the case of motor vehicles. I was worrying myself into an early grave after reading the tales of doom and disaster that might befall me for using this stuff in my cars for so long.

And it's a good job I did ask. IF YOU ARE USING SILICON in your car, you should all know that she has found that there is an ongoing case relating to its use. But not relating to motor vehicles. If you have silicon filled breast implants, from a French manufacturer then go and see your GP and not your local garage.
