Re fitting remote gear change
As per title, what is the correct way of doing this. Reason for asking is I’ve just given up for tonight trying,as not sure what I’m doing wrong. Thanks

Re: Re fitting remote gear change
The way I did it last time:
Bracket + rubber mount bolted to the end of the remote housing
Lean the engine back a little
Get the remote housing and and linkage aligned and bolted up to the gearbox
Lean the engine back upwards and get the bolts in the floor to housing bracket
I found this slightly easier than trying to bolt up the rubber mount to the end of the remote when in the car

Re: Re fitting remote gear change
Make sure the gearbox selector is in neutral and roughly in the center i.e. in line with 3/4
That gives the best chance of the ball/linkage engaging to the remote fork.

Re: Re fitting remote gear change
Easiest if you have an assistant. One person wiggles the gear lever about at the direction of the person trying to line the ball & claw up under the car. Faffy, but not too bad with two people.

Long time since I've done this, but I am pretty sure we put the mount and bracket onto the remote then caught it with a long bolt through the bodywork - then pulled it into line.

Re: Re fitting remote gear change
If your problem is fitting the bolts from the remote to the gearbox then the upper engine steady usually needs to be loosened in order to get some engine rock. Start the bolts in the remote but don't tighten them, then re-connect the upper engine steady and tighten everything.

Get a proper mechanic to help you and ask him to bring a hose in case you decide to set fire to the car! See you Saturday!
