Heater firewall brackets - source?
I am planning to fit a nicely refurbished Mk2 heater into my 850. The car never came with a heater and has no brackets on the firewall. Does anyone know if it is possible to buy the firewall brackets (I have looked around but haven't found an obvious source yet) or alternatively does anyone have the relevant dimensions so that I could fold some up?
I could do this by trial and error, but would prefer to take the easy way out if possible!
Cheers

Re: Heater firewall brackets - source?
I did the same last year and made some brackets up from this:

This is the photo I used for reference to get the height right. Took a lot of googling to find a suitable pic. I have bolted them in place for now - bolt in the engine bay and nuts inside the cabin, sealed with foil backed mastic tape. At some point I will weld them into place.
The centre of the hook / heater stud is 25 mm from the firewall.
Cheers, Paul

Could I be so bold as to suggest that if you are going to bolt the brackets in then you could use large 1/2" dia shallow round, slot-headed 1/4" threaded TRUSS bolts from inside the engine bay. Pretty much unobtrusive and tidy too. Normal nuts from the inside and away you go. I used same when replacing the broken engine steady tie-bar bracket close by as shown in the last photo. I've got a pair you can have FOC if you want to pay the postage. Would be quite easy to make yourself though.

A big thanks again to 1071bob - the brackets that he offered arrived safely in my letterbox today.
Cheers all for your advice and assistance - now I had better get on with fitting this heater as spring is just around the corner here in Tasmania.

If you position the heater with the screws you can get the ideal locations. Note that the spacing between them differed on later cars - for left or right hand drive I think.
Do you have the measurement for how far down they are fixed?

Re: Heater firewall brackets - source?
While we're on the question of the heaters, can I respectfully make a suggestion? If you've got the metal or later Mk2 plastic heater apart, can I suggest that while you're there, you might remove the left and right hand side bolts that hang the heater onto the brackets that Maddog is fitting.
So far, so good. Replace these TWO 1/4" UNF bolts with a single 12"(?) length of suitable diameter threaded rod (or studding). It's all metric now but 8mm is a reasonably close bet. Now the heater is hanging on a full length of bar as opposed to two short lengths and extra leverage that brings with it. New bar secured with new nuts and washers and that's it. There's room inside for the heater fan to clear the through bar too .
