Evening all.
Today I fixed (hopefully ) an oil leak from my timing cover back plate and just sat down with a cuppa and realised I have made a mistake.
I have a 286 and 1.5 rockers and a vernier gear.the timing chain is around 700 miles old.
For some stupid reason when I timed in the cam to 106degrees I have used no1 exhuast rocker for my max lift instead of the inlet.
The car started right up when finished and then I left it until next Friday, to tidy up and check things out properly, sat down and then realised.
I can check with the ignition timing on Friday to see how far it has moved, but has anyone had this mess up before and if so what was the outcome?
Easy enough to fix but would need to take the rad off and the front of the cover off ( lucky I have that easy option)
Regards

Re: Kent 286 balls up!!!!
Just to add tp the original post and thinking how can the exhaust also be at 106 degrees, I may well be 180 degrees out with my circular angle gauge.
This would mean I have locked the vernier gear at 286 degrees on the exhaust from tdc. (Not sure if there is a link with the 286 or just a coincidence.

I have done this before now, but realised before I put the engine fully back together.

Re: Kent 286 balls up!!!!
Thanks Mark
The remarkable thing is / was that when i checked the ignition timing it was spot on to the previous setting so either i was very lucky or by chance i had worked it out but in a completely different way. i have given the car a good 20 mile blast and all is well. I think i even sorted the bloody oil leak at last.
so some how i am a happy bunny .
regards

I've been doing things wrong for years in the eternal hope of a lucky outcome.
This proves I'm right to stick at it!
