On thing I have always wondered about is why the factory chromed the bezel and then installed the little brass rivet. What was the purpose of this hole in the first place? I realize some of our very thorough restorers really pay attention to these types of details. Anyway, what are some thoughts on the rivets. I am losing sleep at nights about this.

Hi Chris Those rivets hold the upper alignment tab in place.

Thanks Paul. Just went out to the shop for a look and some of my bezels have the alignment tab and some don't. On those that don't have the tab the brass rivet just plugs the hole. Obviously the factory quit using the tab at some point in time. The plot thickens.

Re: Headlight Bezel Puzzler
Maybe Lucas press-rolled the bezels and used the hole as a location fixture PLUS alignment tab fixing point. When no longer needed, with thousands in stock, a rivet was the answer. Chroming with a rivet in place is fraught with problems - not that that'd concern Lucas too much.
