Air flow into radiator

Post by bluemin »

My car doesn't have the radiator box, flange or whatever you call it. :? (The bit on the wing  )

So one for the engineers. If I put a bit of rubber or whatever between the radiator and the wing (Not on top.......just the side) would this improve the airflow? I.e. Would it "encourage" the air entering the car to go through the radiator & not bypass it?
OR
Would it be best left "as is" on the basis that the air that bypasses the rad "encourages" air flow through the rad? I.e. It drags air through the rad.

.........If I wiz you I wouldn't be worrying about it either.  However as I aint you I do worry about it & am trying to obtain the maximum throughflow of cool air through the rad.

As the rad cowl was deleted in early 1970 & later cars didn't seem to suffer any worse from over heating than the earlier cars I suspect that it doesn't make any difference at all.

I found a full rubber surround on a Rover Cooper, i think they were all fitted with it. But whether it makes a difference or not is beyond my knowledge. I'd say give it a try, it wont make things worse :)
You can't have too many cars. Just too little space...
