Temp switch

Post by ntonio »

Hello!
Could anybody help me identifying the part number for the temperature switch which closes when engine overheating and turn on the lamp on the dash? The temperature switch without the gauge and goes directly to the warning light I mean. I need to replace it and I can’t find it.

Thanks in advance
Regards

Best I know, there never was a Temp Switch fitted to any model. Many had a Sender (or Transmitter) that is used in conjunction with a gauge and that was all.

Many thanks for the answer.
Here, in Spain, basic models without 3 clocks dash had a switch in the cylinder head (where the transmitter was fitted also). This switch turns on when the engine overheats and lights a warning bulb in the speedo. I thought UK units would have also this kind of switch.

Antonio..
I seem to remember early minis had 4 warning lights in speedo.

Ignition light .
Oil Pressure Light.
Headlamp Main Beam
Overheat light
Am I right in thinking that the bulb fitting for overheat light light in speedo has 2 wires to it?

Therefore you put a live to the bulb and earth is through the transmitter? ( Easiest enough to test by a voltmeter find which wire is live ,earth other wire see if light comes on.

Somerfords list 3 transmitters. contact them they might help.
