to follow on... the 'banjo' fitting on the front sub frame?

Post by AndyPen »

As per my earlier thread on nuts, I now realise my recently purchased new brass banjo fitting is straight, whereas my old one is 90 degree angle. Does anyone still sell these as I am drawing a blank with the usual suspects?

Are these what people use these days? Or shall I just clean up my old one as the threads and inside mating faces look good?

That's the way my thinking is going as the straight one means brake pipe is getting close to the front upper arm bolts etc.

If it ain't broke Andy then don't fix it! It's not as if the old banjo fittings wear out is it.

Thanks for that, as you say if it ain't broke (and it is just dirty) ;-)

Appreciate the Moke shot, I didn't realise it sat at an angle and would have set it in line with the pipe from the front of the subframe. It was all very loose in the pic without the nut as I was simply lining it up ready to cut the pipe. Flexi threads seem quite high on both.

I've a NOS switch and centre pipe saved from years back, and of course the copper washers too. Hope to get back to it in a few days as keen to get this assembled ;-)

Should look like this. I think I've given you the pipe clip for the inner wing.

You have indeed - and thanks for this pic Bob. Is your brake pipe going under the subframe at the front? I have seen them do that and my grey one was build that way, but on the blue one (still original too) it sits on top like the Make shot above?

Like this, with two clips to hold it in place. Thin nut on the brake flexi but these are the braided type from Minispares

Thanks again Bob - that's the same as my 'crossover' 64 car. I'll match that.

Must be the dustiest pic of your car I have ever seen mate?

I don't know if I'm being a bit pedantic or fussy but I'd anneal the new copper gasket washers before I used them. Simply because I don't know that they've been annealed after being sheared out. Simple job too. Get them cherry red and immediately dunk in water. Job done! Do the same to my sump plug too

As the others have said, just clean it up!

Bob, is there any chance of a picture of how the regulator mounts? Is it just one screw? Straight into the bulkhead?

... and now it is shiny ;-)

I'll sort the copper washers out as suggested, plays to be safe ;-)

Andy, I think that's too much. Look at Bob's, that's how I do them, just glass bead blasted.

I am sure it will dull down by the time it actually gets on the car at this rate (see other post about the pillar for the banjo). It matches the new straight one quite well.
