Yes I am a nerd: I am researching the Austrian Mini-racing scene of the 60s and 70s
Re: Just a nice period picture
My dad's Tartan red 998 Austin Cooper on holiday in 1966 in I think Cornwall.
He bought it new in 65 and upgraded it with 4.5" S wheels.
My mum with dog and grand mother in picture.

Re: Just a nice period picture
That is what the antipodeans would call '.....what a fugly car.....'. They had a few more colourful descriptive expressions too, but being a 20 year old church-going, teetotal and early-to-bed pom I never got to use them.
Any of you antipodeans ever hear BMC referred to as Bloody Mooka Crap?

Re: Just a nice period picture
The 'Best Customised Mini' display for the Mini's 20th Birthday event at Donnington back in 1979.
Like them or loathe them I remember there was always a lot of variety at the the few early Mini shows back then and the Mini 20 was a big and fun event! No one there at the time would have believed the Mini would continue in production for another 21 years....

Re: Just a nice period picture
I was there in 1979, those where the Mini days.
Wish it was like that again, not so huge like the last UK IMM. To much, to large, to many people, not Mini anymore. Every body did his best but the celebration field was to far apart but after 60 years of Mini it is expaneable no hard feelings.
Kees.

Re: Just a nice period picture
Looks like the two kids have been painted onto the back window too. What might be referred to as pre-computer photo-shopped!

Re: Just a nice period picture
Another gratuitous non Mini period shot - taken at Spa in 1965, I love how casual the scene looks....

1959 Mini Register - Variations – Door Furniture
"Morris de-luxe had black plastic kick plates on the doors. All Morris 59 cars have body coloured interior door locks with the passenger interior lock as a round button. Austin’s had a similar lock but they were painted black."
