reverse rims (5")
Hello everyone,
My mini is running five inch reverse rims. What do we know about these as I don't often see mention of them.
Cheers.....

Re: reverse rims (5")
As i know, they were made for drumbrake and cooper 7 brakes.
They fill nicely the wheelarches without extensions.

Re: reverse rims (5")
Reverse rims were a 60s aftermarket product to give "ordinary" Coopers and drum braked Minis the "S" look...
They were the same width (4.5") as the S wheel with a different offset.
Of course in those days there were a multitude of people who widened any wheel you like to any size you wanted (with a wide range of quality available...)
Cheers, Ian

These rims have not been banded, or adjusted in any way, thet have a stamp on the face 5x10" and also stamped in large on tbe tim inside 5J. as you woud expect to see on say 4.5 reverse rims.

Re: reverse rims (5")
Looks like there's a date code of 2/70 - Feb 1970 on your wheel Dan. That might be the answer to your Q I feel
A major tyre distributor in Newbury, Peter Lucking told me once that 5" was the maximum width that the standard 145x 10" mini tyres of the time were safe to fit

Re: reverse rims (5")
Weller sold them back in the day with their own 5" and 6" rims on vented and standard wheel centers direct from BL`s suppliers.
I`ve had a few sets of both types over the years and I remember stickers saying tubes must be fitted.
The last set I had were 6" ( not banded ) on standard centers about 15 years ago.

Re: reverse rims (5")
Peter, you are correct.
My ETRTO Standards manual (European Tyre and Rim Technical Organisation) states that the 'design' rim for a 145x10" is 4.00". But they can be fitted on rims from 3.50" to 5.00"

Re: reverse rims (5")
I am certain that Dunlop offered reverse rims in 5" and probably other sizes as well as the usual 4.5".
I am however buggered if I can find any evidence of it at the moment.
