As the title says, what is the best / correct type of grease to use for the sliding inner shaft yokes ?

If it slides, it's graphite grease. If it rotates, it's plain grease, as taught to me throughout my engineering career. So graphite it is, in the CV joint too

As a bit of an aside, there does seem to be a bit of dispute among some (including me) about GRAPHITE grease and the cheaper GRAPHITED grease. Graphite grease is mainly graphite and other constituents that enhance the properties required for sliding joints
Graphited grease is just that. Grease that has graphite added. Personally, I stick to thick, black graphite grease

You know when you have the right grease because as soon as you get the lid off, it's in your hair, in yr undies, on the carpet, the dog, on yr missus and in the bed.

Then when you dip your finger in to it, it gets worse

Hey Spider, I can't stop chuckling......., you've got it right down to a tee. It sticks like crap to a blanket. In Oz, before the days of nitrile gloves, the fitters were absolutely smothered in the stuff. Have a great weekend, Pete the Pom

Interesting short article on Graphite V HI Moly grease, Graphite actually better in some ways.... http://www.molybdenum42.com/molybdenum- ... te-grease/

Grease that gets over-used is Copper slip, its often not suitable for where its used, ie brake pads.......
