Re: Boot clips 1964 mini
The repro clips aren’t as good as originals the steel is more malleable and not as hard, they can rarely be used more than once, so just make sure you get it right first time, I usually fit the clips one at a time and just continue around the bootlid until they are all installed, they are easy to push in but may need a little bending to fit securely

Re: Boot clips 1964 mini
From memory I put the clips on the seal first and then pushed the lot into place, otherwise getting the seal on after the clips have been installed is not good.
Make sure you start at the bottom of the lid and work around.
Hope that helps?

I would go clips and used vasoline to help push the clips in. They are not that bad really.

Re: Boot clips 1964 mini
I say clips but as said before, start at the bottom centre. Clips into rubber at approx place, a bit of vaseline or KY Gel (won't affect the rubber) and clips will slip into greased hole like a well worn sea boot! But before you do, might I suggest that even before you bolt the boot lid in place, you flood the internal (if double skinned) or outer edges internally with Supertrol 001 - or whatever your choice of rust inhibitor for a day or so, so that it works its way between the double skins.
Amazingly, or maybe not as we're talking about BMC.BL and MG-ROVER, this is where I found out that from day 1 of production right up until the very last day - as I found on my 2000 RCSport-5, BMC et al, didn't paint under the boot lid hinges. Not the boot lid nor the lower panel.

Peter.... Great tip. (Supertrol 001). I once stored a sub frame on concrete and the moisture rusted the bottom out.... Lesson learned.
Re: Boot clips 1964 mini
When I fit the clips, I use a flat screwdriver, put the clip on the seal an d figure out exactly where it will be placed to align with the hole. Then put the screwdriver in above the flat side and tap the screwdriver shank till the clip is home.
