I took apart a clutch to check condition of the plate before reuse and didn’t mark relative positions of diapraghm, pressure plate and flywheel. I don’t see any A marks either to get them back together.
Any ideas?

For about the last 10 years or maybe more, they haven't been stamped. Take your pick of 3.
Given the relative weight of this one part compared to the rest of the spinning parts, while not ideal, I doubt you'd notice it.

Re: No A marks on pressure plate and diaphragm
This is a plate from a 10H engine, suspect it’s from the 1970’s. Borg and beck diaphragm presume original.
So, it’s generally ok to just stick them back together any old way round ?

This is one I fitted recently on 69 S showing location of 'A' mark facing timing marks on flywheel.

Was there a mark on the pressure plate? I do have timing marks on the flywheel but nothing visible on the pressure plate.

If you zoom in you can just about see the 'A' but here's another photo which shows the 'A' clearly.

I have the same cas as you no A on the diaphragm
As for me you can put it as you want, there is no incidence, even with balancing

It’s not so much the diaphragm that worries me. It’s the pressure plate behind the flywheel. Should that have an alignment mark on it somewhere? Was that not balanced with the flywheel to coincide with the timing marks?

At this point yes indeed you could assembly if in any of the three ways but I would for sure take the flywheel assembly to a shop, have it balanced and make it for the next time, Done right the components would be balanced individually and then together if for some reason you have to change a component in the future.
