Unfortunately compressing the photos has reduced quality even more is there a better way of sending them? I collected the damaged shell from a London scrap yard (the original car had a new body shell) and had another roof assembly from another scrap car to replace the badly damaged item also the floor had to be repaired were they started to cut the shell in two to scrap it so not a good start in life!

MiniSport built and rallied a Maxi engine Mini. Seem to recall it was rolled into a ball up on the Tour of Mull.

'Imgur' is free to register with, then you can just drag your photos into your own personal Imgur image library. Then copy the text code given for each of your photos into the Mk1 forum post and the photo(s) should then appear on here to view. (See Nick's video below).

Great pictures!
Many thanks for sharing them.

Did you have to modify the Mini front subframe much to fit the Maxi engine/5-speed gearbox and what did you do for driveshafts?
Also what did your insurance company say when you said it was a 1750cc Mini ? :D

It was 50 years ago but from memory not to much cutting of the subframe ,AMO997J was a 1500 JRD892L was the 1750 the drive shafts were one standard short and I think a shortened long shaft the Maxi cups were machined off and flanges made to mate to the mini flanges these were made out of hardened tank steel made by army apprentices at Arborfield as for insurance I had a very obliging insurance agent who years later was jailed for fraud unbeknown to me at the time!

'3disco' it is rare now to make contact with anyone who did successful 'period' Mini engine swaps using the Maxi, B-Series (ADO17), Ford/Imp on Mini gearbox, etc, back in the day and I think your memories from 50 years ago and the period photos of your Mini-Maxi would make a great article for one of the monthly Mini magazines who are always on the look out for something unusual to feature for their readers. Would you be interested in writing a short article on how you built the Mini-Maxis, their spec, any problems and how you overcame them and what they were like to drive on the road? Who knows it might even bring forward later owners who know what happened to them or someone who has one sitting in a shed or garage! Let me know if interested, I have sent you a PM (Private message) via the forum.

I will try and catch up with John Peachey-Austing who ran a quite successful Imp-Mini.I remember that Ted Laessing the Poole speedway rider
welded the flanges to the Imp block to mate it to the mini box.John's mum ran the Kings Head at Redlynch near to Downton. This was where
Richard Longman,Steve Harris,Peter Crouch,Bill Abbott and more would meet up after evening car preparation. The licensing hours were flexible
to say the least.
On a different topic does anyone know the where abouts of Dave Thomas from Devizes who raced a mini in the seventies.
