Hi
Has anyone fitted a heritage boot lid and found that the number plate fitting on the left side sits a little low and does not line with one the holes.
I went back to where I had bought it from and found out it had the same fault. It can be resolved by enlarging the holes but not ideal.

Yes I put one on my car, the right hand lower machine screw wouldnt go in as way offset compared to the bracket, you can weld up the hole in the bracket and redrill and countersink if needed.
I also noticed that the actual skin itself is on the piss. Left hand side of the number plate recess is slightly lower than the right. I thought it looked off so actually measured it and reckon it was 1/4" out. I assumed that the skin was not straight when the put it to the frame but looking at the edges they seemed regular width all the way around, it fitted ok, the top corners both sides needed a "tweak" to get them to sit back for a nice gap.

Hi
Thankyou for your reply, I thought this must be a manufacturing fault.
I have done the alteration, shame it had not been identified at source.

Re: heritage boot lid
I certainly had great fun and games reworking my Heritage boot lid prior to painting it
I understand that they are basically produced by fitting a repair section - the bottom of the number plate pressing - to a Mk3 bootlid and adding the captive plates for the number plate carrier. Both of these plates were fitted too low on mine, so that the carrier would also have hung too low. Also, the pressing above the rear number plate was wrong as this is still the different Mk3 pressing and therefore too curved. Maybe this has been resolved now??
I have seen quite a few restored Mk1 Minis around with very obvious "Heritage bootlids" fitted because of these tell tale characteristics. Heritage were very happy to sell me "correct Mk1" panels at a premium price. None of them were that great but were the best I could get at the time - original parts for these cars being naturally hard to come by.
