Hi folks, I fitted a weber 45 to my 1275 MK1 a few years back, never ran the car as I was too busy with other projects but today I finally took the car for a drive. It ran OK, but the idle is around 2000rpm. I checked the throttle plates and they looked closed, wound out the idle speed screw, searched for air leaks etc. but all looks fine. The only iffy thing I can find is the air bleed screws which should have a tapper end have been replaced but standard M5 x 10mm machine screws. Could this be the cause? Bloody hard to find correct replacements to try this time of the year.

Hi Neil am i correct in saying you are talking about the Air by pass screw ? if so then it needs the correct screw fitting, as far as i am aware it should be screwed down shut, it has a lock nut on it to secure it, if on the other hand it is the idle mixture screw then again it should have the correct mixture screw fitted, both are avaliable online.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, it is the air by pass screws with the locknut that are missing. I figured I would need to replace what is there with the correct items but as shops are shut for another week I need patience. I was trying to decide if I should keep searching for another cause of the the fast idle as I don't know just what effect the incorrect air by pass screws will have.
