Halda Mini set up

Post by Nick W »

Does anyone know the correct Halda twin set up with regards to the correct T gear and cable lengths,
I've looked at some web sites but still would like to see images of the correct way it's all fitted .

Mine's out of the car at the moment but can get some pics of the bits if that is any help Nick?

The length of cable is dependant on where you want to position the Halda of course, but Clive at Autochron can make up any to the length you need. We went from having the T piece directly on the speedo to running a short cable to the T piece and on the main cable. I think that was because fitting a webber but my memory is a bit thin on that score.

No worries, I have sent the lot down to Neil Huband to service and supply the correct cable, It looks like my T gear has been altered and this made it impossible to get the correct set up.
When I have it sorted I'll post up the results for future reference.

There were two types Nick, screw fitting and clip fitting. Most minis used clip I think.

Here's a few pics anyway Nick, just in case it helps.

The first is the 'simple' way when we took the Cable from a T piece directly off the speedo. The cable is new though.

The second is the full set up with the Speed master and extension cable.

The final is a close up of the extension, which I may still use to space it all away from the wiring.

If it's a Twinmaster setup, works style then it's just a V-12N T gear on the back of the speedo with an 18" cable straight to the back of the Twinmaster. I have a 130X gear fitted but can't remember which Y gear!

Thanks Peter, I was going to wait and measure up before I ordered the cable, but think I'll get the 18" one now.

I have some charts somewhere on the gears we used for different tyres, I've found the maps but yet to find my notes. With the works 'boxes' on the dash you shouldn't need the 90 degree gear that we used, but we only had a flat plate riveted in, so it was less strain on the Halda than a direct run.

Perhaps obviously, it depends how high you mount the Halda Nick. Many cars fitted them lower for easier navigator access, which also means there is more room behind for the cable to go back into. I seem to recall that some came in through the bulkhead too on some club cars.

One reason so many knobs were broken off is that navigator knees banged on them when that low.

Yes I was going to ask that, as that's what it looks like on the Monte cars?
