Post by YORKY »

Might be renewing my hydro pipes. Has anyone used the nylon ones ?

I fitted a set of nylon ones as a short term fix, they were on the car for 7 years, and only removed to strip the shell for some welding.
From memory they are a too long, and I had to coil the extra length under the rear floor.
Obviously the nylon can't bend as tightly as the original pipes, and therefore the route can't be exactly the same.
They worked without fault though, although I have sourced some original hard lines to refit.

Cheers, Rich

I’ve repaired them with plumbing fittings in the past. A compression join with olives and let a section of pipe in. Changing the pipes involves dropping the subbies. You may choose to avoid this!
I've got a 69 Mini with a 1046, Cooper Head and a four on the floor.

The nylon pipes will never look good & are undoubtedly a bodge of the first order, but they work well & serve their purpose if you don't want to replace like for like.

Thanks for the replies . I will refit the originals but treat the slightly corroded areas. Does this require a special paint due to the pipes original coating ?

In case it helps I treated a few rust spots on my pipes with common metal rust converter then gave them a coat of zinc gal to replicate the original finish.

This is how they came up.

Can I ask a supplemental question about hydro pipes please?

I know that you can source new metal pipes from several suppliers but do any of them fit without modifying bends or shortening?
