well you should have a look at the wiring that went into project binky what a nightmare it is interesting to look at they modified a late model mg wiring loom to fit and added all the extra bits

A 1964 1071 S that was possibly rallied on the same events as yours. The owner, Geoff Speight and navigator Alec Wilkins were FDMC (Furness District Motor Club?) members. The car, MEC25 was reregistered MJM142 and still exists - there's a pic of page 2 or 3.

That’s fanrastic. Great to get an idea of what club rallies were like, especially the detail of what folk did to their cars. I love the bungee cords holding the bonnet down. I remember some nice tartan patterned ones used on the family roof rack. I must try and find some for that finishing touch of authenticity. Tiny spots and fogs too. I wonder what they were.

The lamps are Cibies , I have just sent some original rally paperwork for MEC/MJM to the guy who owns it.

Cibies seem a nice idea. At the present it’s think about the interior time. No front seats and the rear seat squab is missing. Rather than stress about find some original dark grey /dove grey I have decided to use NC for the missing bits. The remaining trim has different grains and shades anyway. There front parcel tray liner is a completely different grain pattern to that on the rear parcel shelf.

The problem then is that the rear seat back should be of the horse hair with capping rail variety. I needed a capping rail for NC to do what they do. Ply wood hammer and dolly.

I wish I could get the boot lid fitting better at the top but it’s had a thump and it’s the best I can get it.

Only if it was a bad pressing from the factory. There has been some damage to the boot which may have been enough to make the top edge rotate down about the stiffer corners. I could sling another boot lid on from a car where it fits well to check things out. But then, the ethos of the car was to use as much of what it came with as possible.

I’m not going to sweat about it. If I had this car as a twenty year old in the 70’s would I be fretting about this. I think not.

Another day messing about with the wiring. It takes so long... To relieve the tedium of fitting bullet connectors and spade terminals I went rummaging in my box of instruments to see if there was anything interesting I’d forgotten about. I’m not sure they will make it to the final stages but nicely period.

Andrew,

Just a standard wiper type Lucas toggle but not of “later manufacture”! Side lights and headlights are on separate switches with wiper switch elsewhere. Hence the need.

My 850 had a tow bar welded to the subframe. The tow ball had been snapped off. Who'd have thought that 34hp would be enough to pull it off.
