I am installing a new Newton interior in blue for my Mk I. The car is blue also. What colour should the check strap hardware be? Body colour? Right now the hardware is black.

Our late dry 64 has the top metal cover painted tartan red to match the carpet. This is a 33K miles car so doubt if they have ever been changed.

Yep, body colour is correct Jim.
Even in Fiesta Yellow cars with powder blue carpet, the metal strap plates are Fiesta Yellow.
The hook shaped plates that go between the carpet and check strap are black.
