1071 optional extra RH tank

Post by big-un1967 »

Hello.

What does the correct RH tank look like for a 1963 1071, offered as a “optional extra from BMC?

I have a Serk RH Tank which came with lots of bits off an ex rally 1071. Would this be correct?

Cheers

Our Feb 64 had a Serk tank too. I may even still have it somewhere.

Yup, the Serck tank was used on many 1071's until mid 64

:?:

Does anyone know of a template to locate and cut hole in body for a right hand tank on a 1964 mini?

Trace the left hand hole & turn the template round.

This tank would be edge welded but look like a normal right bmc tank. Late right bmc tanks are rolled seam spot welded like the std left tanks

The right hand tank aperture on BMC Australia cars is not in a mirror image position to the left. It's one of the ways to assist in determining if a body is a genuine Cooper S or not. There's only a small difference (but measurable) so a mirror image aperture will work OK.

What was done for factory twin tank cars produced elsewhere??
