i've just fitted a new cv joint which has a single split pin hole.
i see that it has to be torqued up to 190 lbs/ft. is this critical because my wrench only goes up to 150.
why has it changed?

I am not an design engineer, but the torque spec depends on the size of the shaft's diameter, nuts' size, as the new CV joint has changed its suppliers, may be that is why its torque goes up to 190 ft/lb, since the clamping force of the bearing innner races does not change, ( it is using the same type taper roller bearing) I really cannot figure out other reasons!

The later CV's have the single split pin hole & are able to accept a higher torque setting (190lb) as the threaded end of the CV is deemed to be stronger as it only has 1 hole.
The earlier twin split pin hole CV is torqued to 150lb.
As all the components are otherwise the same 150lb will be fine on the later CVs as well, though as these are tapered bearings it would be nice to go all the way to 190lb if poss.
