There are many subjects on this forum regarding Cooper S block numbers.
However, I have just had my engine apart and noticed for the first time numbers stamped into the block.
They are located on a flat piece on the front of the block, behind where the by-pass hose is/above the water pump..
It appears to be a factory stamp - P 80.. What is that number?
It is a AEG 312 Block.
Also the Gearbox housing, Q 22G 333 has numbers stamped on the front. 12FA 82..
What do those numbers represent?

Re: Cooper S Block Numbers
Most of those are covered throughout the forum. From reading;
Number by the water pump should match those on you main caps.
Q hardy spicer output gearbox casing
12FA gearbox number prefix for 1275.

That Q reference for HS outputs is not set in stone.....
I have two 22G333 Q boxes that are both original rubber coupling....

Re: Cooper S Block Numbers
Simon, 251ENG, on here can roughly date S blocks by the block stamping, even off the engine number tag is missing.
I'd agree, some Q boxes do appear to have had rubber couplings fitted.
Seen several like that on my search for an elusive rubber coupling 'Y' casing
