Re: Electrical Mini
I once talked to a guy who worked at the experimental departement that told me they made a electric mini. The car was driven by a generator of an aeroplane (forgot what) and was very heavy because of the battery's. He drove it for some years and after that it was scrapped.... But you nevr know what turns up after being scrapped, many "works" cars did (or at least parts of them!!)

Re: Electrical Mini
I've been searching for this for ages.
"21st November 1973: Geoffrey Rippon, Secretary of State for the Environment, stands besides an experimental electric car with the bonnet raised to show the engine, lent by the Electricity Council during the petrol crisis. (Photo by Frank Barratt/Keystone/Getty Images)"
Its clearly the same car (a countryman) as in the first photos above and the British Pathe link on youtube.

electrical cars (and commercials) where actually very popular at the turn of the last centuary - they where as advanced as the petrol and steam stuff that was avalible.
ive got a great book published in the 20's that shows all the innards etc and was surprised how technical they actually where!
please note, these are my own, individual sales, nothing whatsoever to do with my employer, minispares

Re: Electrical Mini
my old college tutor was ex RAF, i remember him telling me about an electric mini they had and also how they devloped an electric rapid responce fire engine for runway incidents, it was quicker than any petrol/diesel engine and full of water/foam it did a 0-60 in somthing silly like 5 seckonds! as the power was instant.
wasnt there a contryman with the back full of batterys?

On April 29, 1899, Camille Jenatzy, in his 'rocket-shaped' vehicle Jamais Contente, reached a top speed of 105.88 km/h (65.79 mph) and was the first person to break the 100km/h barrier.
