Have always wanted one in my race car, so have bought an old smiths chronometric tacho. It comes with a right angle drive mechanism. It’s 4:1 ratio. Has anyone ever fitted one to a mini and where does the drive take off come from . Assuming it’s from the cam ?
Thanks
Ian

Yes the drive comes off of the back of the cam,
Have one on my Mk1 marcos race car but never managed to get a cable to link the take off on the timing chain cover to the chronometric although understand they are readily available.

Re: Mechanical tachometer
Probably arbitrary but I have one for my grey fergie and the drive comes off another pulley on the dynamo.

I also have a chronometric smiths tach. Believed to be a longman .
It takes the drive off the cam with a right angle drive on the timing cover .
Used it for many years .

If you don't want to drive it off the camshaft you can use a Lucas Triumph TR6 distributor body
with the guts from your four cylinder distributor. You have to reclock the distributor drive so that
the cable drive points upwards and relocate the ignition wires, then all fits very nicely and you can
even use the same cable that came in the Longman kit which is pictured in his catalogue on here.
