An attempt at some colour today where it matters less to see if I have enough warmth in the shed to tackle the shell proper.

It always looks nice when still wet. I have purposely left the unseen areas relatively untouched. Part of the cars history and confirms the originality of the shell etc.

Desperate measures. The doors dried and hardened off nicely but the boot today suffered a drop in temperature. Bit nippy outside the workshop. Just got to improvise.

I’m surprised the hot air gun hasn’t burnt out yet. It is doing the trick though. I think things are getting a bit marginal on the weather front.

A couple of drops of this in the mixed 2K can be helpful in the cold!
I apologise for adding the photos into your excellent build thread.

hi i use a calor gas superser heater in cold weather when im spraying works very well , gr8 job your making of the shell ,very talented

I'm a bit stuffed now for painting weather wise, its always crap at the weekends, so might have to sub contract the painting of bits and pieces to Dad when the weather is good in the week and I'm at work !!

Nothing ventured nothing gained, so here goes with painting the shell. Section by section to avoid tears.

It’s really quite toasty in there now and 2.4 kw was very cheap on the web. Dodging round the off peak electricity might be an idea but going down to the shed at gone midnight to turn things off is not my idea of fun.

Good idea. Better than my idea. The radiant heat proved too much and I have ended up with an orange peel finish. Probably too much heat too soon. Time to ignore it for the time being, walk away and do something else.

Any other thoughts on this? Gun, paint and thinners ratio stayed the same (I think).

i used to get that orange peal effect when i was using 2 pack paint on kitchen doors i used a 7 inch buffer and polished them out they usually came out right do not go to heavy and all should be well

you could Give it a week or so and then flat and repaint it..some use this technique when not using a paint booth.
They call it reflow..but it just means that the finish can be better as you don't have to build up layers of paint. You could also add some 2k clear coat to your paint.

Thanks Nick. I’m probably being too ambitious. Previously I have tended to let thing go off between coats. I’ll just turn this side to the wall and ignore it for the moment and try again on the other side. Practice, and getting things wrong, makes if not perfect then a bit better.

If there's enough paint on it, you can flat and polish, but solid colour with no clear laquer can go a bit patchy .
For buffing a full car Id get some trazact pads to speed up the process.

With the shell spun through 180 degrees time to try again. No heat this time until two hours after spraying. It seems to have worked much better.

Looks like the standard Del Monte Longbridge paint finish tbh. Leave it a few weeks and block it with 2000 grit before using 3M Fast Cut Plus and a mop. It looks like there's plenty of paint there anyway.
