Just bought a complete unseized 850.......
How close can you tell the date from the engine tag....
8AM-U-H 866856....
Looks like a high compression Morris 848, would like to know a rough date on it....

Would say late 1964 based on the knowledge engine 8AM-UM-4379xx is Nov '62, and engine 8AM-UM-9738xx is Feb '65. So if it's got a gearbox it should have 'B' series gears.

I have a late sept 64 numbered 816*** and a late October engine number 839***, so seems to fit

Well, 880*** is supposed to be change to Diaphragm clutch.....Late 64......
According to your numbers, doesn't look like that could even still be in 64, more like early 65......
Even my 866856 would seem to be very late 64.....But, it's got to be somewhere around there......
So, B gears, and, Spring clutch.....Plus, High Compression.....
How High was the compression on 850s, 9.3ish?????
