Wish list build spec 1071?
Having spent maybe 10 years looking for a nice 64 body shell to re body my 64 1071. I have bought a 63 997 Cooper and a 66 998. I will continue
looking for a shell but in the mean time I'm building a knock off based om the 66 shell. I kind of like this approach better. The 64 is RHD Almond
Green single tank. This way the clone can be a nice slate gray with a diamond white roof. LHD with four pot brakes and a single tank. I'm stuck on interior color biscuit or dove gray?
It turns out I have parts to build two 1071 engines. The block for the 64 is already .030 and my spare block is .020. Looking at building a .020 with a .0101/.010 crank lightened and polished S rods. I'm thinking about using a ST643, 1.4 rockers with a mildly ported 940 cyl head looking for 11 to 1 CR. I'm not sue what for a header and I have correct 1 1/4 intake and carbs as well as air cleaner assembly. Not sure I'll need 1 1/2 SU s but do know I plan to turn it up. Gear box seeing as 190 cases are hard to find and not all that much fun to drive my plan is 22G1128 S ratios, cross pin diff 3.9 or 4.10 CWP. Any thoughts on the ideal street 1071? Steve (CTR)

I've been puzzling over this in my head and finally worked out why. I think it is because I'd drop a 1275 unit in for that and keep the 1071 parts locked up safely?
There is definitely something about tweed grey car that I like. It still looks period yet has a fresh feel at the same time

My son's '65 Cooper S,which I purchased before he was born ( he's 40 ) started out as a 1071. Built up a racy 1275 for it.
I still have the 1071...Don't tell him

This would be my son's 65 1071 clone if he gave a flip about a car. Rented a fork lift to lower the shell from decking in my storage unit yesterday. Have to strip hydrulic, electrical and glass. An all over paint color change is a lot of work. I picked a color on my computer and did not notice it being metallic. Doors, boot and bonnet all done inside and out color coat. I'll be 71 in November I haven't had a mini I could beat on for the street since college coming up on 50 years. There is something about a A Series above 7500 RPM though a single Cherry Bomb. I want to hear it again before I go deaf. Steve (CTR)

Use it and enjoy it!
I regularly rev my 1071 to Over 8000 and it’s wonderful!
I’ve just cleared out my dads garage and can tell you these things are useless on the shelf. The next generation will unlikely be interested and they won’t know what to do with it!

I guess I would be simply wanting to support another 1071 owner whose car has lost their original engine.

Re: Wish list build spec 1071?
Not sure I understand what you are suggesting. I have a 64 1071 Cooper S dry, single tank. A young lady took it out for a Joy ride without dad's blessing. Seems she lost control hitting a curb launching the car over a guard rail and doing three end over ends down a interstate ramp before contacting a tree side ways about B pillar. She was very lucky no broken bones just beat up. Her father signed the title and told her it was her problem as he had let insurance laps. It was towed and stored till I bought it for over due fees. I contacted M Machine about the time they quit doing whole shells. I have been searching for a 64 shell. I will keep as much of the 64 together while looking for a shell for it. I have parts to build two 1071s two 1275s and a 970 crank. If I don't enjoy them now the wife could end up paying someone to empty my 5500 sq ft shop full of mini parts to avoid paying rent. I drove a highly tuned 850 though college got drafted requiring a real car for 1500 mile trips home. Traded the 850 and $300 for a 67 Cooper S less power unit. Developed that into a A S/P solo two national car. Followed that with a vintage racer. Everything I did was racing related till 2000 selling off the race team, bus 28 ft trailer and everything racing related. Bought a new shell and built a 1000E and drove to 176,000 miles before parking a year ago. I have helped two widows find someone to buy and clear out their mini mess in the last year. Steve (CTR)

Re: Wish list build spec 1071?
Hi Steve, sorry if I confused. It was the fact that you had two engines that led me to pass comment?
I might be wrong but I'm sure there will be some 1071s out there with the wrong motor?
970 race tuned motor is now in my wife's '64 with a slightly less lairy cam and running twin inch and a half H4s.
Soooo much fun

I'll need to build a fixture for my trailer to carry the Moke and the 1071 no reason to waste a trip. I'll contact east coast Mike and get your contact info. Steve (CTR)
