It’s a nice bit of kit and a lot of time and expense, but!
when dose it stop being a mini engine and become a thingy?
You may as well do a Vauxhall or Honda conversion?

Completely agree, I can't imagine who would buy it. But some one out there seems to be paying >£700 for speedos and Downton badges, maybe social media and internet have changed the market, and bought in new buyers?Minisprinter wrote: ↑Sun Sep 20, 2020 9:51 amTotally agree, especially as it's been designed to take the BMW K type head as I direct fit, I noticed that they have included piston coolers which tends to be a turbocharger type thing, which is a pretty niche market. I really can't see the market for it, as for costs
Block 3.5K ?
Crank 2.5K ?
Rods 1K ?
Pistons .750 K
I doubt it will fit on a std gearbox so more money there

I’d be more inclined to stick a Lotus or Ford block in, if I was going that sort of route.

Nice CAD Drawings, but I doubt they have anything else.

Who ever it is behind it seems to have an awful lot of time to draw up these wonderful drawings, loads of them it seems and flying flags " look at me, look at me " than time actually making anything of substance.

Re: Alloy Blocks & Unicorns
The best thing to do with regards to these stories is,,,,,,
someone close by just go ask, not a phone call, go doorstep them and ask.
I’ve seen a few cad drawings on different web pages of late showing the a series block. The only one I can say has had any credibility and progress is the Minispares one, as it’s actually been seen by more tha two blokes in a shed.
I’m not saying these other blocks don’t exist it’s just, nobody seems to know anything other than Pointing you in the direction of a web page cad picture.
It suggests to me like pet projects by machinists, although being quite a cool thing,
‘it seems like’ it would be far too expensive to produce, even if you was in the market to want one.

Re: Alloy Blocks & Unicorns
There are pictures on Facebook of what appears to be the block starting to be machined...
Still unsure what it could be used for as any form of competition would surely put it in an engine conversion class ?

Looks like machining has started.
"still unsure what it could be used for as any form of competition would surely put it in an engine conversion class" Does it matter? We all know the limitations of an A series block & crank when pushed to the limit, at least there might be another option now.
"Who ever it is behind it seems to have an awful lot of time to draw up these wonderful drawings, loads of them it seems and flying flags " look at me, look at me " than time actually making anything of substance" You seem to have a lot to say for someone who pulls cables for a living.

Re: Alloy Blocks & Unicorns
Is anyone on here clever enough......
(as I’m not)...
to have a good idea as what the Rev limitations of a five journal crank in a block such as this would be....

Re: Alloy Blocks & Unicorns
Well, that's really up to the cylinder head & cam profile, but since an old A series with a 5 port head can see 9000+ I would imagine these new 5 main bearing blocks will do the same, with hopefully more reliability. They are quite a long stroke though so sustained rpm will be somewhat limited until a shorter stroke version is available.

I am still wondering why they are calling themselves "Ascaso Engineering limited" in their facebook posts.
