Engine colour

Post by Jono »

Sorry if this has been asked before but what is the correct approach to engine colour - block and head painted only or everything?

I'm assembling a Mk1 S 'evocation', but not so much an S 'replicar' more of a period fast road Mini (cafe racer if you will though not an expression I particularly like).

Engine is 'period correct' 1300GT based A series with a remote box. I'm building the gearbox and have had the bare casing and transfer housing media blasted (walnut shells) and it's now all perfect for either paint or else aqua blasting

Is the way to go completely Mowog green or leave the alloy bits 'polished'. I confess to having a preference for all green but predict there are likley to be many views!

Cheers :)

I always assemble the engine, less exhaust and Carb, then paint the whole.

Just like in the Film above.

Never had an issue and was always very satisfied.

If you once got your right color, make sure you write down the color code. So once you need to redoing the head or something, you have the matching colour...
I promise i won't buy another MkI...

Mid bronze green seems to be a good bet. There may well have been many variations and Somerford for example say darker. I matched mine to a good original rocker cover after buffing the oxidation off.

Mid bronze was very close indeed.
