Carpet Floor Clip and Bracket

Post by rogerotto66s »

My ‘66 “S” had sills and floor panels replaced so there are no carpet brackets.
What is the proper location of the “8” carpet brackets?

I see there is a floor clip kit available.
How are these installed to the carpet and the bracket?
Anyone know of any videos or pictures available?

There are shaped pressings in the new floors and the brackets straddle them. Here's a picture. There are two in front and two to the rear of the crossbrace, on either side of the car. And here's a link to your clip question

So the small round ones get riveted to the floor brackets
Then the triangle ones clip in from above
The round ones with the triangle teeth are pushed through the carpet from the top and into the corners of the triangles.

This was quite tricky to get right. I ended up putting masking tape on the top of the carpet, pushing the spikes through, then assembling it through the holes in the masking tape. Bit of a fuss!

Some of the higher spec cars I believe used a spacer between the floor bracket and the small round piece to provide clearance for the underlay

Pictures from my old 1963 car show that the rear carpet studs were shorter...

...than the front carpet studs.

So the new kits are incorrect, like so many other repro parts!

Should anyone be in need of these I still have a few of the front kits available that I made up a while back. A few people on here have bought them and seemed happy with them. The kits are £8.50 including UK Royal Mail P&P.

The individual parts are different heights to the originals but the overall measurements are exactly the same:
