MORECAMBE CAR CLUB 'ILLUMINATIONS' RALLY

Out next saturday night on this event, used to be part of the famous 'Motoring news' c/ship. Starts at the Dungeon ghyll hotel in Langdales so first section got to be the famous Wrynose pass and probably hardknott pass. 110 mile on mixed surfaces, looking forward to it. The orangebox was 7th in 1963 and 2nd in 1964 behind winners Geoff Halliwell and Mike Wood in the ex-works 569FMO with a 1293 in it and in front of Tony Fall in the Appleyard's 1275 'S' AAK200B, not bad for a 'bitsa' with a 998 Cooper engine Although a ' modern' event it has a historic class and there are more Mini's entered than any other car Six in total, plus a Wolesley Hornet ( Pete ) an Anglia, MGB, MK1 Escorts etc. Looking forward to it, going to be a tall order to improve on my best finish on this event back in 2009 in the smoke grey 1071. Orangebox fixed after last outing so we are going to have a 'real' go on this one

No it's not me ! Not fixed yet anyway (again) but it's a bit low and lumpy for that malarky and I don't have an appropriate wooly hat.

There's lots of rallying booted variants about from the looks of it, (not on the Borders though ! ) ,do they still have the tests on the Morecambe prom near the Midland Hotel Steve ? (now beautifully restored.. http://www.midlandhotel.org/ )

I do remember there used to be a fella in a Surf Blue Cooper S who was usually the man to catch on the Loomies in the 90's.

Goff Hall and Paul Bosdet are the pair you are talking about Pete, super quick but a bit like the tortoise and the hare or like the late great Roger Arthur Clark used to say to finish first first you gota finish. Any way quick as Geoff and Pete were they couldnt, catch us in 1990 or 1991!

Just got home, a very slippery and quick night, well pleased though, 6th overall and first in class in the little orangebox , plus the man himself Roy Mapple turned up at the start , and had a sit behind the wheel for the first time since 1966ish Downside another list of jobs to do, very hard on the car, 'pedalled' the doors off it

Cracking result Steve, considering the opposition, well done. My driver drove his heart out all nite and we didn't even come close to you and Bob in the 997, although, with me sat in the silly seat, we were at a slight disadvantage! Anyway, hope to see you guys out on the Hexham event on the 19th Nov, which I'm hoping will be a bit kinder to us! Niall. PS How the heck did Geoff Hall manage to be so highly placed after dropping a driveshaft?!!
