I have seen somewhere, someone stripping the coating off an old steering, and then plastic coating it.
But is there a normal way to do them?
And how should you strip the lacquer/paint off? (is it lacquer or paint?).
Cheers

Re: How to restore a steering wheel?
My Restoration process for the steering wheels is stripping the out hard coat with a plastic media blaster, opening up any cracks or damage with a dremmel and filling them with a urathane repair product. After that they are boderworked, and primed before spraying a new hard coat finish on them.

Re: How to restore a steering wheel?
It’s a Urethane coating, gives it a hard outer coating again and holds up well, other than it’s a bit to glossy.
