Sump guard

Post by WesleyB »

Hello

I look for a good sump guard for my Cooper '67.
But first I want to know what to find on the market.
I have many books of rally in the 60th but don't see the type of sump guard.

Then I see on Minisport this https://www.minisport.com/morms0372-min ... dural.html
But is this more for the later Mini Rover etc ?

Difficult choice 8-)
Help for idea's and company's

Cheers
Wesley

That type of sump guard is one of the best available for ‘proper’ use as they mount well and are strong. However, they are HEAVY! I wouldn’t advise fitting one just for looks!

The works ones - scottish variant, weigh a ton!!

These were popular, and the repro looks pretty good compared to my original one.

I also have a couple in my old store, dural I think.

This one looks nice

Also very useful is the Innocenti Cooper sump guard:

Yep - bit ashamed I've not cleared this garage yet but exactly as left in the early 90s, complete with trolly we used to fit it ;-)

These were very common back in the day.

Or this a copy of the factory option > https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sump-Guard-F ... SwNsdeiL8G ;) This is the cheapest postage, there are two on at the moment. :)

Check the Mk1 main site > http://mk1-performance-conversions.co.u ... KD3509.pdf
Scroll to plate A41 (page 168 of 474) you can see fitting details. ;)

Good timing, just clearing out all my old parts and looking to sell this period sump guard I bought off an old guy many years ago that allegedly raced back in the day.

I did spend a long time googling but never quite identified it.

Shares some characteristics of the BMC competition works style shape and material being all steel and not a separate duralumin tray and with different flange winged mounts and not the thin strap style ones seen on others.

Also looks like the dural/scottish type but again no bolted duralite tray, all welded as one and weighs a ton.

Is there a way to determine if an Innocenti one is a repro or original?

I could measure material thickness and provide some photos. Although mine is heavily bent (seems it had to guard the sump at some point).
Gimme some time - I have to dig it out of my personal scrap heap first.
