Choke position
Parnell shows the choke in his mk1 cars on the right, and on the left in the Mk2 cars. Is this correct? AFAIK they are all RHD cars.

Re: Choke position
My mark 1 has the choke on the right. ( Could have been changed at some point so no guarantee it's right. ) Mark 1 driver's handbook has it on the right.
I think on later models it may have depended on what type of heater was fitted. Also saloon/commercial differences.
As so often is the case there are probably exceptions, but as a rule of thumb it seems right side is 'correct' on the mk1 Cooper.

Re: Choke position
I think Parnell's book mentions changeover of positions on mark 2 with the intro of the soft feel type choke / heater controls.

Re: Choke position
My December 67 mk2 has the choke on the right, I often pull the heater by accident.

Re: Choke position
In Mk1 cars, LHD or RHD doesn't matter, they all were in the same position, heater on the left, choke on the right.

Re: Choke position
Another Mk1 feature retained by Innocenti. Despite all cars being LHD the choke is always on the right, right through until production ended in 1975.
Of course I know what a dipstick is, you get called something often enough you look it up!

Re: Choke position
The choke was always near the driver and the heater away from the driver. So... LHD was opposite of RHD.
Here is what Parnell had to say.

Re: Choke position
I'm not sure if that's correct, but it might be true for some markets. Not all of them for sure.rogerotto66s wrote: ↑Sat Aug 01, 2020 2:04 pm The choke was always near the driver and the heater away from the driver. So... LHD was opposite of RHD.

And that can only be applicable to Coopers, a panel for a heater rheostat switch will never allow the choke cable to be fitted on the left.
