Green link cable heater to wiper switch

Post by colonel mustard »

I have a green cable which is dedicated to the wiper switch (location 1 on the switch bank), looking at the wiring diagram, the cable from the heater is also to go to this connection. Do I just cut off the spade connector provided by auto sparks and put both tails in a new connector? Or am I missing something here?

It appears that you have copied a section of the diagram for a '64 through '67 car. For those wishing to see a bit more of the schematic I have provided a bit of the legend and a link below.

ref schematic for '64-'67:

23 wiper motor
24 fresh air blower
25 heater switch
26 wiper switch

Since I have not seen your particular wiring harness I can only provide a generic answer that yes, you could connect the green wire between the fresh air blower switch and the #1 terminal of wiper motor switch. If necessary you could cut off the existing terminals on both wires and crimp them together in one female Lucar connector.

However, you could also use a 2-to-1 connector if you are careful to insulate everything.

The brass 2-in-1 connector shown in the first link can be particularly helpful for a lot of wiring issues.

Have you got two spades for terminal 1 on the back of your switch?

Hi,
Thanks both
It is a 67 cooper wiring I am working to. Looking at the schematic It appears the green wire from the heat is also plugged into terminal 1 of the wiper switch unit.
The wiper switch unit only has 1no male spade at terminal 1.
Think I will trim the female spade off the loom and put both loom and heater green cables into 1no female spade connector which will work with what I have.
Just thought I would check before I start.

A poor picture but I think the fan wire fits on the spade on the right of the green wire. Don't cut off the female spade.

Thanks Ian
I have just purchased some adaptors to take 2no spade connectors into one. Thank you Dk for your suggestions.
On with wiring!

Hi Iain
Looks like your heater is in terminal 7 of the wiper switch(assumes the light green in the photograph)
I either copy this or split terminal 1 into a two way connection.

The first picture was an old one on my pc. The second one I have just done. I had the green on the bottom then after looking at my first picture realised the green was on the top on the other car, so when I took the second picture tonight I swapped the greens around so the heater wire was on the lower connector  that makes it closer to the heater it works both ways. I didn't have time to check the terminal numbers. I knew having not long wired it up that you shouldn't cut the connector off your loom.
