having a slight lumpy running at 30mph ish, my 850 just doesn't like a constant steady gentle drive..we used to call it hunting.
So having go a good plug colour, rebuilt distributor, idle is good and smooth acceleration revs well and pulls strong for an 850.., fresh petrol i thought check the needle.
Took it out and compared with a new Bull motif EB... the same standard needle as I'm using., the new one is way shorter. IS this correct? Seems a bit odd to me!

Re: New needle
I don't hear much that is positive about BM.
Taking money for non-existant stock ......not refunding ......... glacial delivery times ..........

In my experience minis are prone to that light throttle 'shunt' when the mixtures a touch lean. Personally I'd richer it up a flat at a time and see if the shunt disappears.
I used Bull motif recently for the first time as my usual go to shop minispares were out of stock of everything I wanted, delivery was next day, no complaints.

Re: New needle
I had a similar experience recently - ordered a pair of AH2 needles and one was long and the other short. The old M needles in the carbs were both short ones, I ended up getting another new long AH2 from the supplier.
I suspect the new ones are longer than the old ones. As long as the diameters are consistent it shouldn't really make a difference as the HS2 doesnt raise up that far.

Re: New needle
For reference, I just measured an old EB needle on the shelf; 2 inches long. The new one looks about 1/8” shorter.
I would use the old needle and richen it up as IMACK suggested.
