Post by Tweedgreymk1 »

hi have a speedo without a face I'm lead to believe it is a 100mph cooper speedo, is there anyway of confirming this or identifying what it is without a face thanks or is the black face the only relevance to the 100mph

Hi I can't answer your question, but I am interested in trying to find an answer too. I have just bought a similar condition faceless speedo from eBay here in Aus. I suspect it is most likely going to be either from a late Australian (998) Cooper, or Mk1 1275 S. It hasn't arrived yet, but I plan to investigate the gearing for the odometer in an attempt to confirm what model it belongs to. In Aus it should be relatively easy - if the gearing is for a 3.444 diff, it will be Mk1 S. our Coopers were generally 3.76 diff unless someone optioned another ratio from new.

Dunno if this info is of any use to you ..i have like you the center bits for a Mini Speedo ..the Smiths id code printed on the base plate is 625 32 + there is an original stuck on white label with number 161.. i also have the original black center face display from the middle of the speedo face that shows sn 4417/04 -- 1376 also MPH is printed on this black disc .. I do not have the original 105mph displace face .. best i know these are all components from a 105mph Speedo for a std; Cooper period Oct1964-April 65.. me thinks?

If anyone wants these speedo mechanical bits they are FOC just pay the Postage.

Tweedy ..Just to mention in your photo .. there is missing the coil spring that locates around the center shaft ..this spring looks like a "Watch Spring " that winds up as the speed increases & is then used to return the speed needle to zero as speed decreases.
