Here you see the difference between Mini shafts (the left pair) and ADO16 shafts, both rubber cross, with the measuring tape on the ADO shafts.

Re: Length of longest cross joint drive shaft
Sorry Goff, I wasn't clear enough. The 393 mm is the short ADO shaft. 402 mm is the long Mini shaft.
I compared these last year after gambling whether the short ADO shaft was usable as a long Mini shaft. Eventually I bought a pair of Mini shafts.

Re: Length of longest cross joint drive shaft
Thanks again CMC , Yes somebody sold me a ADO16 short shaft for a mini , it has been in 6 years and done 5,000 miles , everything was new ball joints , 71/2 disc brakes ect ,wheels balanced ect , But always shook the steering wheel from 55mph upwards , trying to get to the bottom it !!!! , i hope now it will be cured, having changed wheels , complete hubs ect , Maybe that 10mm short was just enough to make the drive shaft wobble in the yoke
, I got to thinking that one shaft was bent !!! that is why i started to replace them today and obvious when i put this one next to the replacement noticed one was longer . Thanks again for taking the time CMC.

Goff

Re: Length of longest cross joint drive shaft
Goff, I've not measured them, but the Cooper S / Auto Shafts that use the Hardie Spicer Joints are a little longer than those that take the Rubber Joints, it would be around 1/2" difference between them mate

Re: Length of longest cross joint drive shaft
It's the other way around Spider, the Hardy Spicer shafts are shorter. although if you are running negative camber l can't see a problem using the standard shafts.

Re: Length of longest cross joint drive shaft
I have been using pot joint shafts mostly for the last number of years. I still have a collection of cross joint axles.
All I'm sure of is I only have one set of them with the raised area as pointed out in a pic. I may be wrong but always
figured these are Cooper S axles. Of course there were cross joint axles in S cars but I'm not sure if those axles had
the raised area. Steve (CTR)
