I have a few old wiper motors here and amongst the racks I have (maybe ADO16s too) two of them have the central wire sticking out the end. I'd always thought they were cut off where the outer guide ends, then spotted that this one being removed also has the wire protruding?
I would typically cut a new one to the end of the guide / at full stretch of the wheel, but does it engage the wiper wheel boxes better or something if it is left longer??
Wiper question - bit stuck out at the end??

Andy, It may well be from another car as it clearly has a self park motor. These were not fitted to factory mk1's.

Also there is merit in using a rack from a bigger car (I once used one from an A110) as the wheelbases will be operating on a previously unused bit of rack.

Yes thanks Nick, I have a longer one that I think I got on here, and as you say it is worn in different places - bonus
