I have finally sorted out the clutch problem on my car.
The cause was due to the new replacement return spring anchor plate fitting bought from one of the well known spares suppliers being to wide to fit tight enough around the top of the clutch arm causing the anchor plate to crank over to far towards the slave cylinder reducing push rod movement when the return spring was connected to it and the clutch pedal depressed.

I found this out by comparing the replacement anchor plate with an original anchor plate fitting which was narrower and a snug fit around the top of the clutch arm and stayed in line with the arm when the clutch pedal was depressed.

As my old original anchor plate is showing signs of wear now to the spring attachment hole I will need to replace it, in view of this can anyone recommend a supplier of anchor plates that fit the the clutch arm as the original ones did?

Attached above is a photo of my original anchor plate taken prior to restoration showing how well it fitted the clutch arm.

Whilst the repro anchor brackets are a sloppy fit and look crap, I don’t see how they can either reduce the throw of the pushrod or cause your problem?

Fixing the spring hole, is pretty easy, little dab with a Mig, couple of minutes with a file, re drill the hole, done......

Agree that return spring anchor hole & bracket slop is not the cause of your clutch issue .. prove this yourself .. just drill a new hole in your original bracket there is room ( i have done this myself ) for the return spring to secure its position & try the clutch system .. my money says there will be no changes .. your issue is elsewhere as the list of subscribers to this post are saying. ;)

or weld a washer on

Weld and re-drill - job done and will confirm problem solved, or not.

There are two types of replacement return spring anchor plate, one for the earlier tapered type arm and one for the later Mini Spares arm with 22A2204 stamped on side with a square end, (although I also don’t see how the spring anchor plate can reduce the throw of the pushrod or cause your problem).
