Cylinder block drain plug HELP needed

I have a 1071 which I'm trying to put back together. I ran into a little problem. On the back side of the engine by the tappet cover is a threaded hole which I think is for draining the block. I thought part # 53k 2853 would plug that hole... Apparently not, wrong thread. Any help would be appreciated.

I replaced mine with this one on the 970.

There was a lot of crap to get out first as that’s where the rust particles accumulate- once cleaned the new one went in fine

Is it not the engine block coolant drain in question ?

They either have a plug or a brass drain tap.

Always worth clearing out the gallery if the engine is in bits as it always silts up. I use a suitable sized twist drill and operate it by hand to tunnel through the crap. Once you are there (the gallery is quite deep), you can use an airline in one of the close coolant holes in the block face to blow the remaining crap out and will prove if the gallery is clear.

Think that one is for the vertical hole which is for the oil gallery priming. The OP is talking, I believe, about the horizontal one below that which used to have a rubbish tap fitted for draining the block for winter when you needed space to put antifreeze in.

Does look like the oil priming plug, that is in question.

Same still applies with cleaning out the block drain gallery though

OK that's better and yes, it is the coolant drain plug.

Thread is 1/4" BSPP (not a typo - is a Parallel Thread, not tapered). Maybe need to get a tap and clean it up.

I appreciate the offer. I'm in California USA. I have a BSPP plug and have now order a BSPT plug. If the BSPT doesn't work, I'm going to buy a BSPP tap and give it a try. This is a really great site, I appreciate how helpful you guys are.

Problem solved.... 4860K132 British Standard Plug with Hex Drive from McMaster-Carr 1/4 BSPT Male. Apparently most block use 1/4 BSPP 53k 2853 and a few use 1/4 BSPT Male. Thanks everyone for helping me figure this out. Be well. Mike
