Chroming costs and best specialists

Post by coopertim »

Afternoon all

I’ve an original 5 bolt bumper on YVH which needs a rechrome and repair where it’s had a brush with a wall or some such. Which specialists are people using and what’s the current price of a repair and rechrome?

Cheers Tim

Derby Plating. Excellent work. Cost? Lots! But they will give an estimate if you send them photos. They will also review the price once they have it and let you know any variation before they start.

Another one for Derby - when I restored my Elan +2 I had all of the chrome done there, even the Mazac parts. Yes they were 'expensive' but the quality is simply superb and the bits were as good after 8 years as the day they were done.

Also they will quote you and stick to it. All of the other places I have used would quote and then double it when you came to collect so in reality Derby Plating and no dearer than the rest but the quality and price is assured.

Just thinking out loud, could a group deal work for a bunch of parts?

I could do with a few parts doing and was going to approach derby plating when there was a bit more freedom!

Tim there is a place at Hull , i have heard they are very good , a mate of mine from Mansfield will only use them , you will need deep pockets to get that bumper done wherever you go $$$$$$ , the cost is in the preparation work , they tell it takes 13 operations from start to finish for re-chroming , that's without any repairs .

Hope this helps.

Its the time it takes metal polishing off the old material that is the cost and the problem. Pure plating chroming on bare metal can be done on a couple of weeks turn round but re-chroming thats where the time and the money goes and a 2 month turn round. I sometimes wonder if the problem and horror stories comes from peoples unrealistic expectation I have seen what people have sent and you wonder how on earth are they going to repair that as new!!?

It’s the as ‘new’ that costs the money... re chromed dents and all that’s a different matter :)
Cheers
